BVNDIT (밴디트) – Dumb: MV Review

The author decided to add BVNDIT on its list of reviewed performances this month. The lead song is called Dumb, which is included in their first mini-album [BE!]. With new concept rolling on, would they make us stand in awe? Let’s see.

(Side Note: From this day, the author is stanning the rookie group, with Seungeun as ultimate bias, and Songhee as bias wrecker.)

Review as whole

Fortunately they considered also some points here earlier. We refer to Hocus Pocus, which borrows some tunes from Chungha’s Gotta Go. Now that they have a second comeback, no trace of Snapping can be heard from this.

Let’s go to music. The beats used are typically heard in some tourist promotions, which I find it very amusing. If a typical fan would look up for a mature side, this is apparent in their visuals and dance.

Let’s then talk about visuals. Special effects are shown at 0:39. At the next second, some fruits are featured. Wondered why Red Velvet still hasn’t featured it in any of their comebacks?

Shades of red and orange are featured in the video, especially when the curtain is being removed to reveal the sunset. The fragile crossing tape and the modified amphitheater can also be seen here. Summing up the message:

We are finding ways on entertaining the one we love, even if it leads us to be dumb. As we are enlightened on our status, we nourish ourselves and declare that we are going to be a better, wise lover tomorrow.

The camera movement amidst the curtains was the most confusing of all. While the meaning was quite understandable, better if it’s fixed.

Review by others

KPopReviewed got happy upon knowing this song, and wrote that it’s pretty good. The tropical plus Latin beats got a taste of being generic, but Dumb goes mature as compared to past comebacks. The generic side went too far to the point that visuals and choreo suffers, and he hoped a little bounce and vibrancy would give color to the whole MV.

TheBiasList got similar observations on the nature of song. And as you guessed it, nothing unique can be heard. It’s dangerous to do similar stuff, as it loses luster. Positives include their mature, polished performance.
