GOT7 – You Calling My Name: MV Review

Reviews for Hyuna & Dawn, South Club, (G)I-DLE, MAMAMOO, and others will be done some time.

For our another round of review, we will still touch on GOT7 in their latest comeback. Let’s start!

Review as whole

On the first listen, I only understood the terms “calling my name” and “giving another chance.” This might imply that he seeks a second chance, and if granted, be called by his name again.

The music utilizes more on acapella, and then proceeds to simple instrumentals. The only buildup can be heard on the second and final chorus. While the hand moves are a bit complicated, it’s simple enough to be learned. This set up of music helps them, as their vocals do stand out, especially on raps.

While You Calling My Name was not exciting, this was equally calm to begin with.

It took a while for me to understand the oracle bone inscription circling the two members, if not for an Ahgase interpreting it as character for “name.” On the other side, GOT7 utilizes some special effects, particularly on them forming a hexagon, breaking glass, and specks.

Dark settings suggest a sad state of relationship; in which he desires to be granted another chance.

Review by others

It’s not surprising that TheBiasList put GOT7 in its complaints list, till he liked the lead track. The song is bursting with “rhythmic staccato” chorus filled with adlibs and synths. The next chorus being fleshy became a definite point for him to like it. Melodies are excellent, and dynamics are used fully.

KPopReviewed thought that the group veered away from its usual tunes, leaning to a funky beat that reflects their maturity. While the structure of elements that defined GOT7 is still the same, it tweaked a bit on visuals, making it more appealing. Summing up, it is “alluring” and “captivating”.
