Rating K-Pop Groups 2019: Big 3 and YG Groups (TWICE, ITZY, BLACKPINK, BTS, TXT, GFRIEND)

(Side Note: In rating select groups, primary objective is to assess the groups’ responses and attitude of its members. These are crucial also for their survival, profitability, and reputation.

Groups who are not mentioned here and in related articles are presumed to garner 85.00% rating, or “Satisfactory”, unless otherwise stated.)

TWICE

The most impressive attitude of TWICE is on giving their best to Onces. They’ve shown this in their recent Manila concert. Despite having health issues, especially Mina and Jihyo, they managed to make PH Onces happy by having complete attendance. PH being sorely deprived of visits, they make it up by giving their best shot.

Another best attitude is on thinking of fellow member. They dedicate their awards to Minari, and allotted space for her. Not to mention Jihyo finding a way to include her despite absence, and comforting her (together with Nayeon). In fact, they realized how even one member can make difference to the group.

As to Jihyo, she expressed her desire to recover quickly from neck strains. This is the kind of attitude the author appreciates much. But she must take a rest for now, and take time. Also for Minari, who always take time to attend on activities even if ailing, she really needs to rest.

A point for improvement is for Dahyun to be a camera spotter, which they missed. Talk about caring for others’ privacy. If one remembers, Dispatch sneaked into Jihyo and Kang Daniel’s privacy, since Tofu was not included in their roundabouts. Take Dahyun in the picture, and surely Dispatch won’t “invade” into the couple.

BLACKPINK

Even with minimal engagements, BLACKPINK still hits the charts and sales. Part of success lies on their attitude.

The most conspicuous attitude was of Jennie, especially in their recent PH visit. Despite enduring pains, she maintained her composure and greeted PH and Macanese Blinks who are waiting for her last June. If this is lingering, she has to take a rest.

Another attitude worth commending was of Rosé. It can be remembered that she was not given solo debuts for this year. Upon learning of this issue, Rosé immediately responded by telling fans of that event. She assuaged fans, and told them not to worry about her. To add, she tried to communicate with some fans using sign language.

Jisoo showed her concern with Jendeukie, as she hugged and comforted her all the way at the airport.

Finally was that of Lisa, being humble, polite, and approachable in facing the press and other people. Most notable is on donating money to help flood victims in Thailand.

So far, no other negative issues re attitude were encountered with BLACKPINK.

BTS

The attitude played by BTS for this year is very outstanding. So, it’s not a surprise if they still are in the top.

First of all is on being genuine, sincere, humble and “good-natured”. This humility is expressed in their song Boy With Luv and Make It Right, where they go down to be with ARMYs. This they also do when dealing with some people. These acts will take them to greater heights.

Second aspect is on being responsible for actions. This is noted with Jungkook who was involved in car accident. Upon happening, he apologized and took responsibility for the incident.

Most of all, they are in complete attendance. Name any overseas event this year, and we’ll see that they haven’t missed attendance to these. Even in the US, where K-Pop is quite new, they managed to be complete on various shows. Not to mention being complete in virtually all concerts and engagements.

Charity works have to be also noted. Suga donated 100 million won to Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation. RM later gave already the same amount to a deaf school. The group also donated a huge sum to continue the Love Yourself campaign.

Another positive note is on influencing ARMYs to be socially responsible, like awareness campaign on Amazon and other environmental projects. For instance, Vietnamese ARMYs opened a school and named it after V (Taehyung), in addition to forest project named after RM. ARMYs even went far to help fellow fans who can’t afford the Saudi concert.

A point for improvement would be on toning down intense moves. Otherwise, this might pose danger to their health. This time, they have to take things easy and consider safety first.

TXT

Health issues are still underway, such that the group’s supposed recent fanmeet was cancelled. But this has no negative effect at all. In fact, despite this, they managed to name their own fandom and greet their fans in live chat.

To add, Taehyun cared for MOAs by having a coffee truck, loaded with foodstuffs. This shows how special fans are for him and the group.

GFRIEND

GFRIEND’s attitude, and attendance during Manila tour, convinced me to include them as one of three most favorite groups.

They performed in their Manila tour as a complete group. They even appeared complete in a PH music show. As such, extra five points will be given in favor of them in their next comebacks.

So far, there were no major issues on their attitude. If there’s any, they respond very well.

We’ll explain some positive attitudes here. For instance, Sowon just shrugged off the dating issue with Cha Eunwoo as if nothing happened. Another example is Yerin, who sent a coffee truck for Apink’s Hayoung and Red Velvet’s Joy as support for their own activities.

As for SinB, she immediately responded to allegations that she is a difficult person, while it clearly tells otherwise. This was amidst her words taken out of context during Produce X 101. Finally, the group itself in a snap clarified their being focused on phones during live radio broadcast. These responses, like what we will discuss later with CLC, are very important to avoid misunderstandings and issues.

Rating K-Pop Agencies 2019: JYP Entertainment

(Side Note: In rating agencies, primary objective is to evaluate agencies’ responses to various issues. Responses are a crucial ingredient for agencies’ and groups’ survival, fame, and profitability.

To a lesser extent, financial aspects might be tackled, but will not be a major factor in rating them.)

This agency once proved again what matters most to them: values. Not really surprising, since Park Jin Young himself once associated with Christians.

Strong points

When it comes to teaching values, they are the role model all agencies should follow. And this reflects on their talents’ attitude. First instance, ITZY’s Chaeryeong helped Stray KidsBangchan regain strength during recent ISAC. Second, ITZY treated its staff well. To add, its former talents are leaving smoothly in the company (Park Jimin, Baek Ayeon, Baek Yerin).

Next is on TWICE members, who are always thinking and looking after Minari. Finally, is on the agency itself, advising the latter to rest to treat her anxiety problems. They postponed her meet-ups and engagements to look after her health. JYP even requested reporters to respect Jihyo’s privacy.

More positive notes are taken account: (1) JYP’s handling of issue re Jihyo and Kang Daniel is very impressive. Normally this elicits negative feedbacks, and normally this puts Jihyo to rest. However, she is still included in various activities, (2) JYP protecting Minari from harsh comments, (3) issuing stern warnings to protect Jihyo and the rest from injuries at airport, (4) listening to Onces calling for help over Nayeon, and (5) promotions for almost all groups (DAY6, GOT7, Stray Kids, ITZY, TWICE).

Weak points

I will not disclose the first spot, in which there’s need to monitor this weakness. If they failed on this, we’ll have to give lower grade next year. (Hint: This is related to fans’ creativity.)

Second is on TWICE’s tight schedule, especially on Japanese comebacks. With Minari opting out, plus other members suffering from various ailments, JYP should give TWICE enough breaks. With Chaeyoung sitting out of promotions, it seems that JYP is still not ready to give it to them.

What’s The Future of K-Pop?

We have seen rapid growth of K-Pop in the past ten years. Based on its present status, we can forecast what will happen to K-Pop as a whole in the coming years. These will be discussed in this article.

One major question:

What would K-Pop look like ten years from now?

I also discussed this in my previous article. However, with news on the change in K-Pop industry, I decided to talk further about it in a separate article.

New groups

With new groups sprouting, and with their various debut songs, multi-fandom people like me will be confused. Which one should be followed? We will end up selecting only groups that matter.

We have witnessed various groups formed this year. These include ITZY, ONEUS, Cherry Bullet, TXT, BVNDIT, AB6IX, 1the9, TARGET, and VeriVery. These groups will be added more in the coming years. As new groups are trying to be relevant, and competing for limited attention, many will end up with less views and underrated performances.

New approaches

More stars will collaborate with non-Korean artists, like Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, and Lauv. But owing to lack of promotions, popularity, and music videos, these kind of music will not last for long.

With various groups catering to international audiences, and adding more English lyrics, mainstream radio stations will feature their songs. But for TV stations, only few will make it, like BTS and BLACKPINK. And only few dance crazes wil also make it.

The battle in the next years would focus more on quantity and time. The battle now would be on number of views, streams, and likes. Some existing groups are on hiatus, giving other groups chance to stand out.

With intense competition, more new songs and concepts will be featured, focusing on modern side of music, instead of traditional music used by pioneers of K-Pop. In turn, K-Pop loses its distinct flavor and might sway with mainstream trends.

The genre will expand promotions, focusing more on US and Latin America. Expect some changes if this happens, which includes assimilating Latino music into the genre.

Fans will increase. Expect more distasteful remarks between fandoms, and more support in promoting each other’s music. Sasaengs will also increase, and expect more attacks toward artists. Expect also some fandoms turning tables around, as is the case with Monbebes today.

As a whole, K-Pop might feel a gradual downturn as it battles various issues, especially that more agencies are unresponsive to these. Plus its aversion to experiment on new styles of music, as what TheBiasList pointed out. It reached the apex, and going through declining stage is becoming inevitable.

New milestones

Existing and former groups made their mark on various aspects, from album sales, concerts, and ability to penetrate Western markets. New groups will usually find it hard surpassing milestones made by pioneers, like being featured in a Time Magazine or three billion views.

We will also see more stars from new groups rise to fame. This we see today with some members of ITZY and AB6IX, who were named as one of famous Korean personalities. Even if they debuted just months ago, they immediately caught attention from more people.

More groups will disband. This is apparently the case for new groups which will only exist for a limited time (instead of usual seven years). Also, other groups under indefinite hiatus will eventually disband.

Oldies

More and more oldies will face pressing issues, like drugs, sex, and crimes, regardless if proven or not. This we see from Seungri, Daesung, and B.I, and this is not farfetched. On the other side, some oldies will do solo debuts or collab, as was the case with 2NE1’s Park Bom or Sistar’s Soyou.

More and more stars will experience depression, especially among the oldies. Take the case of Sistar’s Dasom, and even Taeyeon from Girls’ Generation. Worse, this might lead to another death like that of Sulli.

If not involved in bad stuff, more oldies will go to drama, and some will go on a date and marry. They will prefer to stick on personal life. This we see now with 2NE1’s Dara, who is now dating with her longtime crush. Even SHINee’s Minho is now thinking of having a family. Take also the words of Jin and V (Taehyung), who want to live simple lives after ten years.

Specific Forecasts

YG Entertainment, while still taking the lead in bringing K-Pop to the world, will struggle to be relevant in the music industry, as it battles various issues from its talents.

Others like SM, BigHit, JYP, and even small entertainment agencies will still remain afloat. Meanwhile, new agencies like that of Daniel Kang and PSY will start showing their own talents, competing with the big ones.  As to 1theK, we see less and less MV uploads from other agencies to the channel.

K-Pop sees Japan as a very profitable and “critical” market. In fact, July 2019 was full of comebacks in Japanese. Some groups already have Japanese members (like IZ*ONE, TWICE, and Cherry Bullet). However, the ongoing trade war and racism against Japan will indirectly cripple K-Pop in terms of sales.

Military service

All of EXO, SHINee, and Super Junior members in the camp today will finish military service, in which case they will continue their careers together.

As to BTS, all members will be in active service, at which point their fame will be on a halt until their comeback. In the meantime, TXT will take the lead.

Other talents

Produce 101 will not air anymore owing to breach of trust with fans and future trainees. This vacuum will be filled by other shows, which more or less adopt the same format. On other cases, existing groups and members will venture on different shows like Queendom, as another way of promotions.

Few soloists will stand out, like IU, Chung Ha, Heize, Park Bom, and Eric Nam. Others like Mina (AOA), Sunha (SATURDAY), and other Pristin members who left their groups will battle for fame as soloists or venture on drama.

Opening doors to non-Korean talents are giving exciting prospects to K-Pop. Expect more agencies opening its doors to them. In fact, JYP Entertainment debuted its Chinese group Boy Story, and SM Ent did the same with WayV. An agency debuted SB19, an all-Filipino group, and Zenith Media formed Z-Boys and Z-Girls.

For Z-Boys and Z-Girls, though they are quite related/non-related to K-Pop, their boom in the future will inspire other agencies to follow their concepts, shifting K-Pop to become more global in approach. This also might push agencies to add more non-Koreans to their respective groups, which will force some Koreans to tone down their racist remarks.

Final Words

In general, the challenges K-Pop will face in the coming years include (1) ability to penetrate mainstream media, (2) maintaining the vibe it has amidst globalization, (3) agencies to respond to worst of issues, (4) handling of increase in new groups, (5) keeping and maintaining talents (as is the case with IZ*ONE), (6) surpass milestones made by pioneers, and (7) need to change negative attitudes of some Koreans.

ITZY (있지) – ICY: MV Review

ITZY is now on our list of reviews, with their song Icy.

Even if they were rookies, they proved popular in their own right. (Congratulations!) They’re still catching up by releasing Icy, and recently, named their fandom as Midzy. I won’t be surprised if fanchant now would be “ITZY Midzy spider went up the waterspout.”

Another funny thing: See if ITZY will play the MV twice: (1) as an advertisement, (2) and itself at the same time.

We have reviewed their debut song, pointing out some things to improve (which by the way, I revised the score upward). Would it be the case on their second lead song? Let’s see here:

The story describes the journey of the girls in New York. As newcomers, many are seeing them, and felt astonished with them. At that point they performed and walked with confidence, not minding what others are talking about.

They are sharing the lesson of confidence, not minding unnecessary remarks as long as you are confident on what you are. Another lesson is on value of freedom, and enjoying life. Viewers will benefit from their feature of New York City and how the people lived. They might engage viewers to travel there.

Sense of humor is seen on 0:27, where the kid shows her facial expressions. Another funny scene is at 2:46 – 2:47, and at 2:53, during a job interview.

Review by others

KPopReviewed described ITZY’s song as very energetic, expresses confidence, and “infectious”. It continuously builds suspense and energy to keep one hooked to the song. Added point was on the projection itself, harking back to TWICE’s Likey.

Weak points were on dance breaks. Even if they’re fine, they were “too awkward.” Another were expressions, which lack conviction.

TheBiasList weighed down on Icy, noting that the group performed very well in their debut song. It added that the group will stay as it establishes its genre apart with others.

Main positive factors for this song was on the girls’ charisma, noise, and energy. Pull-down factor was on vocals, which they attempted to hit high notes. It ended by telling that “frustrating elements” would not be noticed, since they are focused more on performances.

Review as whole

I find their “Blah, blah” a bit annoying. Other than that, most of the production were very good, and it can be seen that this is well-prepared and well-budgeted. I loved also how they moved the camera as if they transition from one member to the next.

Gleaning from the title itself, it might imply winter. But going further, they are playing with the words “Icy” and “I see”. Being icy contrasts their fiery nature: Spectators at first will see on them as icy, cold-hearted girls. But let them perform, and they will bring fire on the stage/streets.

On music, I appreciate the bop tone throughout the song, the blobbing tune at chorus, and the “eh-eh” remarks at the end. Opening beat shares similarities with Red Flavor of Red Velvet (at 0:05 – 0:12).

They are following the footsteps of their elder group in the latter’s song Likey. While TWICE members are going to Canada as a group, the rookie group travels independently of each other.

Another thing that stood out for me was that ITZY engages the (non-Korean) people around them. From people looking to dancers jiving with the group, the group made sure that these people are also part of the video. This adds already more excitement to the song.

ITZY (있지) – Dalla Dalla (달라달라)(Misheard Lyrics)

Good day again, guys! Second featured misheard lyrics will be on newbie group ITZY, with their debut song Dalla Dalla.

We have been serious and frank on our MV review of them last time. But on this, we will see the other side if we misheard their song. Let’s just relax and enjoy it.

Considering the misheard lyrics below, the alternate title for this song is “ITZY? I Know!“. This will also be the first time we give a title to it after their group. Other alternative titles for Dalla Dalla include “May Alden Love Me?” and “Dollar Dollar.” Sounds familiar.

You may play this video while reading the following contents. Enjoy the misheard lyrics of “Dalla Dalla” (달라달라) (ITZY/있지) from TweetNewscaster!

He put. You’re mean

May Monday rose? I call your money to man (Molly to man)
Now, chip your honey guy, ah!

Now berry season. Don’t you cheer, Anna?
Next time, he show what?
Cook a money car

On the good day might Lay
Make a no-no car. Tour hot hell
Uh, oh! Sorry!

You, perky man
I’ll go. May Alden love me?
Here, gay come in dollar dollar dollar
We kiss your man
I might shore. How I share man?
I’ll see, go! May guy show her the heel fire?

What Is The Fandom Name For ITZY?

ITZY with their cute poses. Photo from Koreaboo.

Let’s just take a break for a while, as we answer this million-dollar question:

What is the fandom name for ITZY?

Honestly, even if I am not a fan of the group, I find this soooo exciting. Why?

While someone recommended that their haters be called as “Bitchy” or “Itchy”, many have wondered on what would be their fandom name up to this writing. And while they have some names in mind, netizens did not stop in sharing their recommendations.

The members of ITZY themselves, particularly Yeji and Ryujin, had their three proposed names:

  1. UPZY (ITZY will go higher)
  2. In Us (All in us)
  3. ITzU (Yeji must have thought of her pet dog shihtzu as she cuddles another dog in their MV of Dalla Dalla.)

How about the netizens? They have many options, aside from those mentioned:

  1. BITZY
  2. EDZY (ITZY has an edge, or advantage.)
  3. Ganzy (Stylish/Cool)

Well, if you will ask me on their fandom name, they may pick on the following names:

  1. ITSY
  2. BEETSY
  3. TEENIE
  4. WEENIE
  5. YELLOW
  6. POLKA-DOT

Or these are the alternative choices:

  1. ITSY
  2. BITSY
  3. SPIDER
  4. WENT UP
  5. THE WATER SPOUT

Just joking. 😀 However, if one will be serious about this, UPZY or EDZY will do. Their fans can also be called as EASY, implying that they are at ease with each other, and they are enjoying what the group will offer to all of us.

Or they can be called as BUSY, telling that the group is busy in providing all what we K-Pop fans need. At the same time, fans are expected to be busy in promoting the group, considering that this is a newbie one.

(Latest Update: Midzy has been their fandom name now.)

ITZY (있지) – Dalla Dalla (달라달라): MV Review

Good day, readers! This year marked the rise of new groups from different entertainment companies. Among them is JYP Entertainment, who recently launched their new group, ITZY (있지). They debuted last February 12, with five members, namely Yuna, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yeji.

And for the first time, we are going to review the debut music of the new group, Dalla Dalla. The song is also freshly-baked. Hope this review will be helpful for the group in their next projects. You may watch first their MV here before reading the review:

Storyline

  1. Video must have a storyline – 3 points

The storyline revolves on the girls who changed their outfits before going to the airport, with the aim of reaching at different destinations, including tunnels, buildings, flats, and a dog parlor.

I gave this rating, as the MV should have made the storyline clear enough even for those who don’t understand Korean. It does not matter how anyone would interpret it.

  1. Theme must be consistent and clear – 5 points

While their storyline lacks depth, they applied their theme consistently throughout the whole video. Especially on featuring what’s inside the airport. Actually, the theme revolves around the journey members are making.

Appearance

  1. The music video as a whole must be colorful – 5 points

I must say that their MV is the most colorful so far. This deserves an excellent score. And they nailed it perfectly: They used special effects to depict changing colors of flats, their room, and their dog, as seen on 1:09 – 1:25, 1:58 – 2:01, and 0:54 – 1:01, respectively.

  1. Must be done in good taste – 5 points

I did not see any part that will make me avoid looking on the video. Nothing awkward or gross is being featured there.

  1. Does not celebrate Halloween, Easter, or similar celebrations – 5 points

The MV has no celebrations as mentioned. They only celebrated their being free and their desire to dream high.

  1. Does not feature astrology – 5 points

No trace of astrology is featured in the video.

  1. Less horror is featured in the video – 5 points

I did not see any thing in the video featuring horror.

  1. Not too revealing outfits – 5 points

Though their shorts are short, that was quite decent enough.

Music

  1. Ability of the music to excite the listener – 5 points (Updated)

In fairness to the group, the music by its nature is exciting. However, that was not enough to push me to hear it till the end.

Sorry. I updated this score after several listens, and I can tell that this is sooo exciting.

  1. Music should not be deafening on the ears – 5 points

Even if it is played at a loudspeaker, the music does not irritate the listener. Nothing loud was heard in the whole music.

Dance

  1. Dance can be learned easily even by beginners – 5 points

Beginners can easily learn the dances ITZY is featuring in the video, especially on the chorus part.

  1. Dance must not be too sensual – 4 points

This lacks one point, as I have noticed something. I find it off Chaeryeong dancing at 1:44.

Lessons

  1. Moral lesson must be clearly stated – 5 points

They imparted the important lesson – to dream high and never stop reaching on our dreams, as heard on their lyrics. Them being on top of the car tells us viewers that we should always aim higher, or aim to be on top in everything we do.

Another lesson they taught us is to follow laws. Instead of arguing with and beating the airport security officers, they follow the standard airport protocols. They submit themselves for inspection.

Last lesson they taught us, albeit unconsciously, is on carrying their bags. These represent our willingness to bring everything – whether good or bad – everywhere we go. Every contents in the bag will be helpful for them, and us, to survive as we go on our journey.

  1. They must impart something beneficial for their viewers – 5 points

They made a good choice on featuring how to take care of animals, even by just cuddling them. This shows how we are ready to care for our pets. This is seen on 0:54 – 0:55 and at 2:02.

Other Matters

  1. Inject sense of humor in the music video – 5 points (updated)

Sorry. I did not see anything funny in the music video. That would be a great help to lift up the mood of listeners. They should have taken a cue on TWICE when they debuted in Like Ooh-Aah, as Sana tried to flex her muscles but failed.

Sorry again. Updated this, as I have overlooked another funny scene, where the girls are changing outfits inside the elevator. I find it funny also how they threw clothes upon sensing CCTVs. Where’s Dahyun, by the way?

  1. Ability of the song to make it to mainstream media – 4 points

Most likely, the mainstream media will pick it, given that the music is quite exciting enough, not to mention the hype given on the group and the music.

  1. Review by other sites – 3 points

Here are some comments by netizens:

I don’t like this debut song. The song was not catchy

ITZY got everyone confused! Their vibe reminds us of every Kpop girlgroup mix all together

I better watch teaser than MV. I am so disappointed.

Doesn’t sound that good tbh. Sounds very generic as if they trying a bit hard to sound different.

I see them as Black Velvet concept

I don’t find them cringey. I think they are awesome and loveee the choreo…

I like their line distribution and vocal range

The views are because of people’s curiosity really. I don’t think it’s a strong debut

Maybe they’ll do release better songs next time.

Another one caught my attention:

At 1st listen: This song is meh

2nd listen: Hmm, not bad, I guess?

3rd listen: DALLA DALLA! I LOVE MYSELF!

The most compelling comment is this:

They reminded me of Crayon Pop at times. But the feeling I got wasn’t nostalgia. It was confusion.

1:09 when they start dancing will definitely remind you of bar bar bar. Their harmonization during the chorus, and the solo rap segments are broken up similarly…. 2:46, that part [of Crayon Pop] just cemented it for me.

Obsessed and Assessed viewed the group and their music as hyped up. The blogger added that he/she became skeptical on the teasers. It viewed the song as “impressively bad”, and that it was incoherent.

The reviewer had explained fully the reason why the dog changes colors, and why the airport is featured. It represents the individuality of each members, and that they have same dream: to reach the sky.

It finally ends with a note that it was one of the most disappointing debuts coming from one of the most famous entertainment companies.

AllKpop reviewed the song as pretty and playful. By describing how the song plays upon the MV and the members, it was indeed exciting and catchy. It tells that the difference between other girl groups would be on “energy and enthusiasm.”

The Bias List explains the fact that ITZY was created as another girl group to watch out for. It pointed out that the song was a mash-up of different genres from different K-Pop eras. However, it stressed the random structure of the song and the lack of final hit to make it more powerful.

  1. Review of the music video as a whole – 5 points

Overall, the music video as a whole has a beautiful concept. They had presented something different from their music video, though they combined concepts from other groups, as we will discuss later.

  1. Other factors
  • Comparison between ITZY and Dalla Dalla with that of TWICE – 3 points

If you will recall, TWICE’s debut music was Like Ooh-Aah. This served as energizer, and this was indeed exciting. Now, given that ITZY is also under JYP Ent., it cannot be avoided that they be compared with TWICE. It cannot also be avoided that some commenters will tell that TWICE has exciting moves and music, while the newbie lacks it (as of now)

  • Sharing dance steps with other group – 5 points

Their dance step at 2:28 – 2:30 closely resembles that of GFRIEND’s Sunrise (in 0:48 – 0:50).

  • Resemblance with other members – 5 points

At 1:41, Lia (?) looks like Jisoo of BLACKPINK

At 1:56, Yuna resembles Tzuyu of TWICE. And at 2:09, Ryujin resembles Sana of the same group.

  • Sharing concepts with previous MVs – 5 points

They copied some concepts from other groups. This is noticed on the last scene where they pose for a finale, and then elevator door is shut. It recalls the elevator used by PSY in his MV of Gangnam Style.

  • Shares similar melody – 5 points

The melody of the song shares that with TWICE’s Like Ooh-Aah (2:452:57), particularly at 2:46 – 3:00.

Also, at 0:23 – 0:38, the tune resembles that of Meghan Trainor‘s “Me Too” (0:05 – 0:21)

Final Words

Some points merit better rating, and I already revised this rating upward to reflect better my view on the group.

Given that they are being sold out as an alternative to TWICE (or other girl groups under JYP Ent.), they must prove that they can equal or surpass what the former group achieved. This is to not degrade them or compare them with another girl group, but for the newbies to learn more from them. Anyway, they will create their new sense of identity later on.

This review will somehow help ITZY get on track, and keep these considerations in mind. This is to guide them on the goal they want to achieve.
